Beijing, Dec. 30 — According to China’s state news agency Xinhua, the military drills being conducted by the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) are aimed at “Taiwan independence” separatist activities and foreign interference.

Xinhua reported that Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said on Monday that the purpose of the drills is to curb collusion between “Taiwan independence” forces and external elements, prevent activities that undermine peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait, and safeguard China’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Chen made the remarks in response to media inquiries regarding the military exercises code-named “Justice Mission 2025,” which are being conducted around Taiwan Island. According to Xinhua, the drills began on Monday and are being carried out by multiple forces under the PLA Eastern Theater Command.

As quoted by Xinhua, Chen emphasized that the mission is intended to defend the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation and the immediate interests of Taiwan compatriots. He said the drills serve as a stern warning to “Taiwan independence” separatist forces and foreign interference, adding that any attempt to pursue “Taiwan independence” will be met with a strong response.

Noting that the historical trend of national reunification is unstoppable, Chen said no one should underestimate the Chinese people’s firm resolve, unwavering will, and strong capability to safeguard national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
